Rheda is one of those people you can never quite put your finger on. One minute secure, the next insecure; one minute angry, the next content. The reason for this is the key to this complex character: she doesn't trust herself. More specifically, she doesn't trust the way she thinks or her ability to make good decisions. As a result, she looks for an authority figure or belief system to give her the answers or guidance to make decisions. The strange thing about Rheda is that she desperately wants to be independent. She is loyal, compassionate, trustworthy and positive. This sub-type looks to protect the little guy while remaining loyal to an authoritarian system. She is not concerned with being liked. During the story, she learns that perfect security is impossible - she may even learn that trying to find certainty in an uncertain world can cause more uncertainty and anxiety.
When she's under pressure, she tends to act without thinking. When she's relaxed and secure, she becomes less suspicious, relaxed and trusting.
What did parents do for a living? Her mom and dad were both very religious folks. Now they think it is a mortal sin to associate with Rheda because she is a member of a coven and confessed witch. they think Rheda is doomed unless she walks the straight and narrow path as a christian. How has she changed in the last ten years? Very much more reserved in her feelings now, a bit edgy. Has discovered tarot and the coven and finally a feeling of belonging.
Having had an average education, Rheda is likely to hold knowledge and facts at the ready. She sees the lack of knowledge as a point of weakness and would rarely admit not knowing something. She may at times volunteer information she doesn't really know much about.
At work, Rheda is loyal, truthful and team oriented. She tends to be security oriented, concerned with potential problems and predicting moves by the competition. She trusts her team, though. She may be attracted to security work or causes.
Rheda starts off being a person of the system, spouting whatever ideals the system or authority may believe. She will be attracted to causes which help the little guy, so she will stand up for anyone who's being abused by an authority. Being introspective, she can be a powerful public speaker, but quiet and reserved in private.
Dialogue examples: "I don't think I can do it alone." "You can count on me." "What am I supposed to do?" "Who can I trust?" Internal Dialogue: "I feel good when I'm loyal. I'm cautious."
Rheda can be reliable and trustworthy in a relationship, usually forming and maintaining long-term relationships. Others are drawn to her loyalty, but can be hurt when her anticipation of problems extends to the relationship. She may question others' intentions, but usually corrects herself before it becomes a problem. Rheda tends to be attracted to Type 9s (The Diplomat) for friends and generally avoids Type 3s (The Self-Promoter).

Josie will use her energy and drive to maintain an intensely active lifestyle without really caring whether anyone is along for the ride. Josie's character flaw is based on the incorrect belief that suffering can be avoided indefinitely. During the story, she learns that always focusing on the positive is limiting and, although she seems to be living life to the fullest, she's actually missing an important part of life - the dark side.
When she's under pressure, she becomes rigid and self-limiting. When she's relaxed and secure, she takes time to think things through.
Josie never wears rings. Even when she was married she wore no wedding ring. She feels that rings restrict and prevent spiritual entry.
Wears emerald earrings to strengthen her eyes.
Josie is a product of a childhood where she disconnected from her care-giving mother figure (not necessarily the mother). Somehow this figure failed this child, not being there to nurture when bad things happened, usually abuse at the hands of relatives or peers. This caused her to be a little less people oriented, relying on distractions and involvement to keep her mind off the infraction. As an adult, she maintains that difficult task of avoiding the anxiety within. She has always been very involved with the world and is materially successful. Although others can see she is troubled, she doesn't see it that way. Life has been good to her. For example, she tells others she had a great childhood, which we know isn't the truth.
What did her parents do for a living? Her Mom was a stripper at night, and worked most days as waitress. She never knew her dad.

What was her saddest occasion? The death of her twins and the seperation from her husband.
Has this character given up a dream? Yes, for a happy family. She's convinced she'll only screw it up again.
Was she ever addicted to anything? alcohol
What was her romantic past? never really was interested in men after the kid of childhood she had, but when she met her husband she was swept away. Since he left her she's been single.
How has she changed in the last ten years? Just more bitter and cold.
Having had an average education, Josie has a wide variety of interests. There's a good chance she had a lot of fun in college and may not have finished getting any degrees. She doesn't consider knowledge or thought as important as fun and freedom.
At work, Josie is up beat, innovative and fun to work with. Able to stay focused on the big picture, she is cool under pressure and able to inspire others to keep going. She's attracted to jobs where she can be independent, possibly running her own company.
Josie is aggressive and competitive, not as interested in human relationships as in achievement. This achievement has the primary purpose of creating distractions and the secondary purpose of creating wealth, which can then buy material distractions. As a result, she concentrates speech on those distractions, never really facing what her true feelings about something may be. She is always outside-focused until she has had enough and decides to face the inner demons. This is a world that she is not used to and will ask for help from trusted friends and neighbors. When under pressure, she can be very charming, able to talk her way out of just about any situation.
Internal Dialogue: "I see the bright side. I feel good when I'm happy."
Josie can be enthusiastic, responsive and adventurous in a relationship. Others are initially drawn to her zest for life and adventure, but that wears thin when she won't acknowledge difficulties or pain. She likes partners who mirror her own self-image. m_YourChraracter tends to be attracted to Type 5s (The Analyst) for friends and generally avoids Type 1s (The Revolutionary).

Trace Levi (Ex-husband) appreciates Josie's positive outgoing personality. And Josie enjoys the thoughtfulness and independence of Trace Levi. But Trace Levi can see Josie as wanting too much attention. Josie can see Trace Levi as dampening enthusiasm and becoming unavailable. Although both types get angry in bursts, they tend to back off quickly to avoid negative or painful feelings.
Jacob and Jecobi (dead twins)
At some point Josie will face and confront the demons inside or the person or persons who caused the demons. She will learn that she has been running from something and it has done no good. Avoiding the dark side has limited her growth. Upon releasing the need to constantly be active, she finds a calmness inside that purifies her nature, making her realize she has a soul and it's a good one. She will still be very active, but now out of a desire to express how happy she truly is.

Ellie has always been a very giving person, always had close relationships with people, but years of giving and never getting has built an internal fury that has come to a head. Ellie's character flaw is based on the incorrect belief that personal fulfillment comes through giving to others. She has always repressed her own needs to do what she feels is the right thing: giving to others.
When she's under pressure, she can become angry and aggressive. When she's relaxed and secure, she gets in touch with her own needs and lets the world take care of her for a while.
She's a Leo.
Ellie never connected completely with her protective father figure, who was somehow inaccessible. Ellie associated with the care-giving mother figure to show the father figure how loveable she is. The love never materialized. This was this type's first disappointment in the world and most probably a big reason she has gone over the edge. As an adult, Ellie never connected with anyone, yet gave all she could, becoming desperate to receive love and yet unable to just ask for it. Relationships always blow up when she becomes smothering and drives the other away.

Was she ever addicted to anything? no
What is her romantic past? every relationship fails because she smothers the men in her life.
How has she changed in the last ten years? hasn't not really, but her heart has weakened more and she's in need of a transplant.
Having had little or no education, Ellie may be focused on helping a small number of people rather than trying to help the world, most probably those immediately around her. She may also have a limited number of interests.
At work, Ellie can be manipulative, imposing help and advice on those who may not need it. This helpful habit leads to feelings of entitlement; she feels she deserves better treatment and support. She may become vindictive.
Ellie has always searched for that close, connected love relationship but never found it. As a result, she has begun to hate others, especially others she felt close to. Ellie will say things like, "I never liked you." "You've always been an idiot." "Why don't you go cry to your mother?" Once she establishes this new cruel streak, pockets of emotional pleas for help may emerge. She is sorry and asks for help in indirect ways. She is sinking and knows it. This could offer some great dialogue possibilities.
Internal Dialogue: "I feel good when I'm helpful."
She wears a jade bat close to her heart to stregthen it(she doesn't know that this stone has power over the weather). the stone is also protective.
Ellie can be manipulative and self-serving in a relationship. Other characters are attracted to her giving nature, but eventually feel she's belittling and undermining of others. She feels she deserves whatever she wants from others because of all she has given in the past. She tends to be attracted to Type 4s (The Bohemian) for friends and generally avoids Type 8s (The Boss).

Ellie is attracted to Raine Petra's (half brother) strength and support. Raine Petra is attracted to Ellie's attentiveness and helpfulness. But Raine Petra may find Ellie to be too dependent and approval-seeking, while Ellie can see Raine Petra as overly confrontational and dominating. When Ellie tries to soften Raine Petra and assert control, Raine Petra resists and moves against containment with more confrontation.
Ellie moves psychologically toward a more unhealthy world. She starts to lash out furiously against those who she once held so close. The lack of getting needs met by others and her inability to meet those needs herself, pushes her toward a brutal, retaliatory effort where she seeks to get that reciprocation by any needs necessary. At the worst, she gives up any hope of getting the needs met and just wants her pound of flesh back. Eventually, she may become so psychosomatically ill that she will collapse in on herself - driven to destroy, but unable to pull it off. She may become catatonic and separate from the world. A pitiful victim.

Jameselle is creative, expressive, empathetic and very intuitive. She has successfully looked inside herself and discovered the true self. Not that the true self isn't without problems. She is, at least, aware of them at this stage in life. This makes it possible for her to create an expression of that self-knowledge, through art, poetry or other means. This expression rings the bell of universal truth in other people. This sub-type is extroverted, so, what others think of these representations of the self is important; it's the way she discovers her true nature. Jameselle's mistake is that she believes that to continue this flow of self, to avoid a block, she has to be more of whatever she is. Whatever that is (angry, sexual, aggressive), can alienate others and make enemies quickly.

Jameselle's character flaw is based on the incorrect belief that there's an ideal love or circumstance that, when found, will make her feel loved and complete. She avoids being ordinary. During the story, she learns that this constant focus on what is missing is causing problems with what she already has.
When she's under pressure, she loses touch with her feelings and feels ordinary and unspecial. When she's relaxed and secure, she becomes less moody and more responsible.
wears a garnet because it helps skin conditions, which is why she wears a shroud. Wear small obsidian spheres on ears to allow easier access to sub-conscience, and to stay grounded and centered.
Jameselle never identified with either parent as a child, culminating in a sense of being abandoned, and, as a result, had to look internally to find out who she is. Although, she struggled with it early in life, at this stage, she has discovered herself fairly successfully. Her past is full of exploratory experiences, most of which she is probably pretty embarrassed or ashamed about. When these come out, however, she is quick to confess to them and claim them as all part of who she is. An artist.

What is her romantic past? no relationships, pushes away any man who gets close to her
How has she changed in the last ten years? hasn't really, unless you count her education.
Having had a lot of education, Jameselle is likely to have a wider audience for her artistic products. She's creative on a grander scale with sophisticated and diverse tastes. She's also likely to be very accepting and helpful to those struggling to be creative.
At work, Jameselle is creative and expressive, always thinking outside of the box. She usually tests assumptions in the workplace, providing the necessary energy to keep the company alive and growing. She's attracted to either emotionally intense jobs or creative, unique jobs.
The extroverted artist is hard to keep down. Jameselle is the Mozart type; she can create amazing things and at night go out and play, talk or create with others. She is a communicative artist primarily concerned with how she looks to others, as well as whether this artistic gift will disappear soon. Jameselle can be insecure which may interfere with attaining her goals. She can be self-revealing and emotionally honest.
Dialogue examples: "Why don't you understand me?" "Leave me alone, I like being sad sometimes." "I'm like no one I know." Internal Dialogue: "I'm unique. I feel good when I'm different."
Jameselle can be sensitive and emotionally honest in a relationship. Other characters may be drawn to her depth of feeling, but later feel that she subtly rejects them when they get too close. Jameselle will move psychologically toward being even healthier, finding a stronghold to rest her identity on, possibly a love that understands Jameselle or a regained connection to a person from the past who knows her. Through this experience, she becomes "whole" by appreciating what is here and accepting herself as is, which makes self-expression more of a desire and less of a need.

Kay is in control. Purposeful and willful. Protective and honorable. Believing that the team is counting on her leadership to pull off the plan. At this level, she has immense amounts of self-confidence, strengthened by past performance. Kay is a straight shooter, doesn't pull any punches in the quest to get things done. The flaw in her approach is that her willfulness doesn't always take into consideration the other members of the team, steamrollering them, overpowering them, and relying heavily on her ability to control the team. Control is a real issue for her. She expects other people to stand up for themselves. Others look up to her and can rest assured that she will get the job done. Kay's character flaw is based on the incorrect belief that the world is an overly demanding place and the only way to get what you want is to be powerful and force your will on others. His biggest fear is to be weak. During the story, she learns that hiding vulnerability creates vulnerability.
When she's under pressure, she withdraws. When she's relaxed and secure, she uses her power to help others get what they want.
she wears sapphire earrings because she believes that it stimulates the third eye and expands psychic awareness, and she wears a light blue flourite around her neck to strengthen the sapphire's powers.
Kay never identified with her care-giving figure, who may not have been the mother. Still, she didn't disconnect completely. Somehow she took on the role of protector - perhaps a protective father figure was missing or ineffective. In order to keep the order in the household, Kay had to grow up fast and become either the protective figure of the household or compliment the protective figure to bring the level of protection up to a comfortable level. As an adult, she has taken the leadership role in every situation, learning that this is the way one keeps order and makes sure everything turns out okay. This controlling nature may have driven away followers, leaving her a little lonely.

Having had a lot of education, Kay works on the assumption that others know he should be in control or in power. He's surprised when he meets resistance to his drive for power. He also tends to "float above" everyone and avoids getting directly involved in smaller battles.
At work, Kay is a bold, take charge kind of person - a tough negotiator who likes a worthy opponent. Under the surface lies a soft heart, driven to protect the underdog. He's attracted to high-powered work where he can shoulder a lot of responsibility.
Kay is in control and wants others to remember that. He has the strongest will in the room and thinks this willfulness is a primary component of completing any goal. He doesn't see personal relationships as that important and may seem a little uncaring. He wants the others to focus on the task at hand. "Keep your eyes on the prize." "This is it; let's do it." Kay is also very extroverted, able to take control quickly even when the help isn't asked for. He may step into a conflict and try to solve it, paying the consequences. "I was trying to help."
Internal Dialogue: "I can do it. I feel good when I'm powerful."
Kay can be self-confident and protective in a relationship. He is direct and persistent. Other characters feel safe with his strength, but sometimes his "get things done" attitude can be tiring. He'll champion the underdog, taking on "projects" and may intervene to help someone he feels isn't looking out for themselves. Kay tends to be attracted to Type 2s (The Caregiver) for friends and generally avoids Type 5s (The Analyst).

Grant Alem (husband) and Kay often connect in supporting each other's causes with Kay encouraging Grant Alem to take more effective action. Conflict occurs when Kay gets impatient with Grant Alem's fears and doubts and asks for a bottom line. Grant Alem may feel intimidated and threatened by Kay's aggression. Angry confrontations may occur, causing Grant Alem to withdraw.
Kay psychologically changes toward opening himself up to others rather than controlling them. He learns that others are competent and trustworthy, releasing the strict control he has been forcing on every situation since childhood. There's a freeing of self, allowing him to express true feelings, showing weaknesses even. There's a humbling, humanizing effect.

Aura can see all sides of any argument. Intelligent, perceptive and peace-loving, she hates conflict and will try to solve the problem or get away from it - not likely to get emotionally involved in the conflict, staying objective. She makes the perfect diplomat for that reason, offering a truly unbiased point of view. This is primarily because she, more than any other type, can see the big picture. Little things that other characters argue about don't matter to her. She can offer compromises or put it in perspective to create the peace she loves. This subtype is more likely to take a leadership role, to bring two sides into an understanding. Aura inspires others with a kind of calm confidence. However, if the situation is particularly difficult, she is likely to gloss over important issues to try to get back to a peaceful world. This retraction into the self, this centering, can have a positive effect, making her capable of level-headedness and control in the face of extreme chaos - the only member of a team that remains calm under fire.

During the story, she learns that her own priorities are important and that it's worth facing conflict and being uncomfortable to achieve her goals.
When she's under pressure, she gets bogged down in skepticism and doubt. When she's relaxed and secure, she becomes efficient and ready for action.
wears an opal ring for protection with out of body experiences(OBE).
wears a peice of petrified wood around her neck on a black cord to protect her from drowning.
Aura is the product of a healthy and happy childhood, growing up in a household with virtually no conflict. As a result, she connected and identified with both her care-giving figure and her protective figure, seeing herself as an active and accepted member of the family. She was able to synthesize each of the attitudes and personalities of the parental figures into one whole. As an adult, Aura has always been calm and objective, able to meld into any situation. She is more physically involved with the world and has made a very diverse set of friends. However, there is still an unattached quality, which means she doesn't always hold onto friends.

Having had an average education, Aura sees herself as equal to those with no education and those with a lot of education. The knowledge base she picked up in school may help her conform to more diverse situations and may help her resolve conflicts between others.
At work, Aura is calming, empathetic and easy going. She looks to create harmony in the workplace, actively diffusing conflict and tension among coworkers. She gets along with almost anyone. She is attracted to jobs where she can work independently away from stress.
Aura has a calming effect on any situation. Willing to step into a conflict just about anywhere to see what she can do. Likely to say things like, "You both want the same thing." "Let's all get along." Aura will be friendly to absolutely anyone. If that person's a problem, she's likely get involved to find out what's causing this conflict, unlike the other subtype who's likely to back off and dismiss it. However, in her weaker moments, she may tune out when others bring up tough issues.
Internal Dialogue: "I'm easy going. I feel good when I'm settled."
Aura can be reassuring and very accepting in a relationship. Other characters feel appreciated and loved as is and feel calm around her peacefulness, but may become irritated because she just seems to float through life. She fears separation from others due to conflicts. Aura tends to be attracted to Type 3s (The Self-Promoter) for friends and generally avoids Type 8s (The Ally).

Aura psychologically changes toward independence and a truly peaceful mind created by a sudden belief in herself, unwavering no matter what conflicts come up. She is able to release having to go along and fit into any situation, learning that what she wants is just as important, standing up for what it is she would like, secure enough in herself to weather any conflict that may arise because of this action. She comes to understand the difference between forcing her will and just expressing preferences to get what she wants. This causes a truly calm and peaceful inner world, no longer struggling to keep opposing forces in harmony.

Alamas appears to embody all the positive values held high in the community in which she was raised. She is popular, good looking, smart and successful. Alamas may strive for money or status and can be, at times, a shameless self-promoter. However, this attitude is tempered by the drive to become a better person. Constantly working on herself physically, intellectually, professionally - but never shy about what status she desires. Alamas is worthy of being admired and acts as an excellent motivator for others, being all that she can be, leading by example. The thorn in her side, however, is that she is never finished improving. There's no end in sight and that's frustrating. Also, at times, she can be neglectful, choosing work over personal relationships. This subtype is friendly, loves to be the center of attention, has a large set of friends and wants to reach out to others. She's always charming with a social conscience.

Alamas's character flaw is based on the incorrect belief that success, love and acceptance are earned through performance. Image is everything, to the point of deceiving herself of her own true feelings. This can interfere with her ability to care deeply for others. During the story, she learns that success and love come from being authentic and is not based on accomplishments.
When she's under pressure, she gets tied up in details and loses assertiveness. When she's relaxed and secure, she reflects on her true feelings and her authentic self.
Alamas connected with her care-giving mother figure, finding someone who cared deeply but had problems of her own. These problems interfered with the care-giving figure's ability to be with Alamas or at least to give full attention. The reaction was for Alamas to abandon her true self to become someone the care-giving parent would accept. This subtype is people oriented, so, as an adult, has looked for acceptance in people she admires. Alamas admires socially accepted people and tries to mirror them, becoming a better person to earn the admiration of the person she admires. She has emulated her hero and has met with great success in the process. However, failure has plagued her intimate relationships, having been neglected or non-existent.

Has she given up a dream? not really, but she feels she has but that's only because she's never satisfied.

What is this characters romantic past? not much of a romantic past, all the boyfriends she get don't last past a year. she has a habit of going for married men.
How has this character changed in the last ten years? she's more independant
Having had a lot of education, Alamas is very capable of handling anything that's thrown at them. They have confidence in their abilities, which worries enemies and calms cohorts. She's likely to have diverse talents that surprise others.
At work, Alamas can be hard working, high performing and intensely goal-oriented. She may expect coworkers to work as hard, but realizes this is unrealistic. She's attracted to jobs that have the potential for true greatness or fortune.
Alamas is very social, the star and life of the party, the kind of person everyone loves to talk to and just be around, personifying the in-crowd. She does have moments of weakness, though. The fear of rejection will make her work around situations she feels will result in rejection. Alamas might have to leave a room instead of meeting who she admires most. Also, she may confess to others she is not this wonderful person everyone sees but still has much work to do to get there. Alamas is a team player who gives others credit for their contributions. She's great at summing up the situation and coming up with a plan.
Dialogue examples: "I'm a slave to my calendar." "I'll work all night if I have to." "Why doesn't everyone work as hard as me?" Internal Dialogue: "I feel good when I'm successful."
Alamas can be charming and gracious in a relationship. Other characters may be attracted to her charm and successful image, but may later resent the "get things done" mode. She tends to be attracted to Type 8s (The Ally) for friends and generally avoids Type 9s (The Diplomat).

The catch with being driven to be the best you can be is that you never actually reach completion. Alamas is never good enough no matter how hard she tries. Also, she never really developed her true self, but only developed an outside persona. That's left her with an internal identity crisis and a deep-seated fear of rejection. These elements can come out at times of self-disclosure likely in this sub-type. The psychological change moves toward a self-acceptance, self-admiration and a release of the fear of rejection. She needs to slow down and let feelings surface, learning that outer success doesn't bring inner fulfillment. Once the change has taken place, she may stand up to the admired person to do what she truly feels is right.

Wow, R!
What details. I'm floored with the work you've done.
I can't wait to see what you do next.
Lovely! Brava.
Where did you find that kind of information/questions?
hiya kait,
I have character pro 5. it helped me with the character sketches. spent the whole morning and some of the afternoon doing them, and then felt really tired when it cam to the actual installment.
I must admit, i'm becoming a little too addicted to The witches of alphadale lane. have even begun a map of my new world.
It's so fun! Great practice with writing first and then worrying about the mechanics.
With this being so public it can never be fixed up and submitted somewhere, but that's ok. i'm having to much fun to care. Really gonna plot this week, so i can get this moving along a little faster.
R
Thanks, R.
You never know. It could go places. But you are fine-tuning your craft.
Brava on creaing such a world.
I can't wait to see more.
Those are very in-depth character sketches--the Character Pro 5 must be great to work with.
You sure have spent a lot of time on this. Maybe you can do something more with it some day (more than just with the blog I mean). Especially if you enjoy it so much.
Wow, Rhoda!! That's so impressive. It takes a lot of dedication, and I love the results!! Thanks so much for being so generous with us. The Witches are fascinating and so cool!!
